Dear Some: All or None is so Zero Sum

“:all lives matter” is a bigot claim to ignore the experience of minorities

It’s like paraphrasing Animal House.

All lives matter. But some lives matter more than others.

And the ones who’s lives matter more just happen to be the ones in a position to decide others’ lives matter less.

could have not dykesplained it any better. this i am gonna blog. Heterosexual men have to stop defining, insulting, assaulting, raping and murdering women who say no, men who ask for a yes and anyone who they think tricked them. given how they treat other heterosexual men, I am appalled that modern era feminism is about as behaving as badly as and as if, equality has been achieved. eh.

speak to gender and sexuality and inform government policy

Writing on Twitter, Rowling said: “Since speaking up about gender identity theory, I’ve received thousands of emails – more than I’ve ever had on a single subject.

“Many have come from professionals working in medicine, education and social work. All are concerned about the effects on vulnerable young people.”

Referring to a post from the Transgender Trend website, she added: “The writers of this letter are just two of a growing number of whistleblowers.

Doctor and social media personality Eugene Gu said: “Treating transgender kids as if their gender identity is a mental illness causes them unimaginable psychological harm. Let people choose their own identities.”

Many stars of the Harry Potter movie franchise, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have condemned Rowling’s views.

Have you ever met any humans? They don’t usually pay attention to actual professionals, medical or otherwise.

If only we could cross-pollinate celebrities and professionals. sigh.  But even then about half the time we get the worst traits combined and end up with a defect like Dr. Oz or Deepak Chopra.

i try to avoid them, I don’ anthropomorphize that species

i have a intergenerational and intersectional LGBTQ2 blog and i wonder if you are okay with my posting the exchanges we have. I think others would benefit from reading.

I can only guess you mean to use me as an example of poor thinking and bad expression. 😄

The Emmy nominations are here, and they are unbelievably queer | CBC ArtsQueeries is a weekly column by CBC Arts producer Peter Knegt that queries LGBTQ art, culture and/or identity through a personal lens. Queer-centric series like Hollywood (12 nominations), RuPaul’s Drag Race (10 nominations, plus another 2 for Untucked), Killing Eve (8 nominations), Queer Eye (6 nominations), Cheer (6 nominations), Euphoria (6 nominations), Pose (5 nominations), Will & Grace (5 nominations), The Politician (5 nominations) and CBC’s very own Schitt’s Creek (15 nominations!) dominated the proceedings, as did many a queer performer. All in all, the amount of LGBTQ representation across the nominations is pretty much unprecedented.

Get lost in Amazon Acres: a photographic snapshot of a ’70s lesbian communeWhen you think of the queer history of Australia in 1978, chances are you immediately think of the very first Mardi Gras protest and the earthquake it unleashed. Artist, filmmaker and academic Helen Grace, a young mother at the time, wasn’t on the march that day, though she did photograph the brave souls who fronted court after being arrested.

1920s expat Paris Lesbians  my fave historic era

from the article:

The permissive atmosphere of Paris is all the more remarkable given the hostility towards lesbianism found elsewhere. Britain was particularly intolerant. Oscar Wilde had been convicted of gross indecency in 1895 under section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1885, for ‘committing acts of gross indecency with male persons’. In 1921, MPs debated adding the following clause to the Act that would also make lesbianism a criminal offence: “Any act of gross indecency between female persons shall be a misdemeanour and punishable in the same manner as any such act committed by male persons under section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885”.

Although the House was unanimously agreed that this was a “most disgusting and polluting subject”, the bill failed on the grounds that it might give women ideas. The Lord Chancellor reasoned that “of every thousand women … 999 have never even heard a whisper of these practices”, and therefore “the taint of this noxious and horrible suspicion” must not be “imparted by the Legislature itself”.

‘Paris-Lesbos’: the vibrant lesbian community where women thrivedWhen Oscar Wilde died in a Paris hotel room on 30 November 1900, he was estranged from his family. Following his conviction and imprisonment for gross indecency, his wife Constance moved to Switzerland and changed her name, and that of their two sons, to Holland.

Rights are for humans, Lest We Forget

For one year in Canada LGBTQ2 could marry, but not divorce. It took another court case for that legislation to have inclusive language

15 years later, reflecting on the fight to say ‘I do’W hen Canada’s Civil Marriage Act (Bill C-38) came into effect on July 20, 2005, making same-sex marriage legal from coast to coast to coast, the country became the fourth in the world to legally treat homosexual couples the same as heterosexual ones.

G-G-Generations of Queers

Gen X reflections of Boomers in the era of Millenials adulting

'To be a queer millenial is in some ways a different experience,' says Meghan McCarron

‘To be a queer millenial is in some ways a different experience,’ says Meghan McCarron. The idea of queer-centered spaces in the food and beverage world is not a new phenomenon. As special correspondent for Eater, Meghan McCarron wrote in last year that “the queer food world is coming out.” McCarron has been documenting queer food culture and reporting on the history and future of queer food spaces.

yes, the younger than my generation of queers was supposed to have rights and live their lives instead, they are fighting to keep rights won by my generation and the ones before mine – decades before they were born

those of us who had no rights, won them are having to fight all over again

equal treatment under the law and access to the public square and health care and careers as well as housing and marriages.

We can’t talk about LGBT health without remembering Virginia BrooksUrgent issues face queer and trans people everywhere, including LGBT suicide, the continued practice of conversion therapy, HIV burden, an epidemic of violence against trans women of colour and poor mental and physical health compared to straight and cis people. In 1981, a former social worker named Virginia Brooks coined the sexual minority stress theory.

“In 1981, a former social worker named Virginia Brooks coined the sexual minority stress theory. Brooks’ work explained why such health disparities exist. In the process, Brooks revolutionized the way we think about queer and trans people, rejecting cultural notions that being queer or trans is pathological, the result of a traumatic past or something negative in people’s lives.

Published in 1981, Brooks’ Minority Stress and Lesbian Women showed how exposure to cultural, social and economic stressors translates into psychological and biophysical stress for LGBT people. Going through experiences like homophobia, employment discrimination and lack of civil rights, to name a few, cumulatively over time translates into poor health.  “

I recommend an interesting article, the jobs that we did when we were marginalized, vs the professions we had access to after rights were gained

Making friendsThere may be some truth to the ‘gay jobs’ stereotypeThere is an unusually high concentration of gay or lesbian workers in certain occupations. For example, both gay men and lesbians and are overrepresented in psychology, law, social work, and university teaching. And there are real occupational patterns behind some popular stereotypes, from the gay flight attendant to the lesbian truck driver.
