Kitty Wells recorded ‘It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels’ – as an answer song to Hank Thompson’s ‘The Wild Side of Life’. It became the first No.1 Billboard country hit for a solo female artist. In the 1970’s Elvis expanded on these songs with “There’s a Honky Tonk Angel(Who’ll Take Me Back In)” 1988 saw Nashville Producer Owen Bradley’s final session with Canada’s k.d. lang’s Shadowland LP, which included Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn and Brenda Lee with k.d. doing “Honky Tonk Angels Medley”
