In 2004, it finished at number 21 on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema. On November 27, 2016, the Grammy Hall of Fame announced its induction, along with that of another 24 songs.

1981, Canada – In Toronto, a Provincial Court judge acquits Don Franco of charges of keeping a common bawdyhouse in his own home. Police had burst in on Franco while he was having a three-some in 1979.

1981, Canada – Out of the Closet: A Study of Relations Between The Homosexual Community and Police, commissioned by Toronto city council, is released by Arnold Bruner, the author of the report. It recognizes the gay community as legitimate part of community and calls for permanent police / gay dialogue committee.

1982 – The CDC defines a case of AIDS as a disease, at least moderately predictive of a defect in cell-mediated immunity, occurring in a person with no known cause for diminished resistance to that disease. Such diseases include KS, PCP, and other serious opportunistic infections. Diagnoses are considered to fit the case definition only if based on sufficiently reliable methods (generally histology or culture). Some patients who are considered AIDS cases on the basis of diseases only moderately predictive of cellular immunodeficiency may not actually be immunodeficient and may not be part of the current epidemic.

1983

Culture Club’s “Karma Chameleon” leads the UK chart in the first of a six week stay. The song would also reach the top of the Billboard chart next February and would be Number One in sixteen countries worldwide.

1988

The Hollies were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother’ after the song was used on a UK TV beer commercial, the song was originally a hit in 1969 and featured a young Elton John on piano.

2007 – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claims Iran has no homosexuals while speaking at Columbia University.

H.D., as she was called,  befriended Sigmund Freud during the 1930s, and became his patient in order to understand and express her bisexuality.H.D. married once, and undertook a number of relationships with both men and women. She was unapologetic about her sexuality and thus became an icon for both the LGBT rights and feminist movements when her poems, plays, letters and essays were rediscovered during the 1970s and 1980s. Her lover was Annie Winifred Ellerman (2 September 1894 – 28 January 1983) who wrote under the name Bryher.

The group split up in 1980, but received a $1 billion offer in February, 2000, from an American-British consortium to re-unite for 100 concerts. They turned it down. ABBA reunited for an LP and a digital concert event in 2021, the last supergroup alive helping the world through covid.

2002: In Du Toit v Minister of Welfare and Population Development, the Constitutional Court of South Africa rules that same-sex couples must be allowed to adopt children jointly.

Janis Joplin debuted with her new group, the Full Tilt Boogie Band, before 4,000 people in Louisville, Kentucky. Less than three months later, she would be dead from a heroin overdose.

1971

13,000 people packed the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh to see the first authorized staging of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” The work was the brainchild of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice and made its debut as a record album, which became the top seller of 1971. Scores of unlicensed concert productions sprang up in the U.S. in the wake of the album’s success, so Webber and Rice came up with their own concert and theatrical versions, one of which opened on Broadway in October 1971.

1975

Chicago disc jockey Steve Dahl held the infamous Disco Demolition between games of a baseball doubleheader at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Dahl burned Disco records brought by fans who received discount admission. Some of those fans decided to start their own fires and a mini-riot ensued, forcing the White Sox to forfeit the second game.

Olivia Newton-John and the Electric Light Orchestra had the UK No.1 single with ‘Xanadu’, taken from the film of the same name. It gave Olivia Newton-John her third UK No.1 single.

1986

 Howard Jones on his way down with “No One Is To Blame”,

Culture Club lead singer Boy George was charged in London with possession of heroin. Following raids earlier in the week, four people, including the singer’s brother, Kevin O’Dowd, were charged with conspiring to supply Boy George (born George O’Dowd) with the drug. Boy George, who said he was under treatment for heroin addiction, was later fined $500.

1994

The Backstreet Boys temporarily stopped their “Black & Blue World Tour 2001.” The tour had to be put on hold because A.J. McLean entered a treatment center for depression and alcohol abuse. The tour resumed on August 24th.

2004

David Bowie was forced to cancel a string of European shows after emergency heart surgery. The 57 year-old singer had an operation last month in Germany, where he was on tour, to treat “an acutely blocked artery”. The star’s cancellation last month of 11 European dates was originally attributed to a shoulder injury.

2013

Elton John told the British tabloid The Sun that he considered himself lucky to be alive after unknowingly battling appendicitis. The Rocket Man played through the pain during a series of concerts before seeking medical attention. He told the press, “I’m lucky to be alive. I was a ticking time bomb.
